What is Effluent Testing?
Effluent testing means checking the quality of wastewater that comes out of a factory, treatment plant or drainage system before it is released into a river, drain or land. This wastewater is called effluent.
The test checks whether harmful substances, such as chemicals, oil, heavy metals and organic waste, are present in the water and whether their levels are within the safe limits set by government bodies like the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and State Pollution Control Boards (SPCB).
Effluent testing is done for:
- Industrial wastewater from manufacturing units
- Treated water from Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) in hotels, hospitals and residential complexes
- Treated water from Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) in factories
- Trade effluent discharged by commercial establishments
Types of Effluent We Test
1. Industrial Effluent
Wastewater generated by manufacturing units, chemical plants, textile mills, food processing units and other industries. This effluent often contains chemicals, oils, heavy metals and high organic content, and needs to be tested before and after treatment.
2. Domestic Sewage / STP Effluent
Wastewater from hotels, hospitals, residential townships, offices and institutions that runs through a Sewage Treatment Plant. This is tested at the inlet (before treatment) and outlet (after treatment) to check how well the plant is working.
3. Trade Effluent
Wastewater generated by commercial establishments such as laundries, workshops, printing units and small businesses. This is tested to confirm it meets discharge norms before entering municipal drains.
