Ambient Noise Testing

Many industrial processes release gases, dust and vapours through vent outlets, smaller openings used for process exhaust, storage tank breathing, or equipment relief, separate from the main chimney or stack. These vent emissions are often overlooked, yet they can carry pollutants that affect air quality and require regular monitoring under environmental norms.

Sawen Group is a QCI and NABL accredited environmental laboratory based in Lucknow. We test vent emissions from factories, storage facilities and processing units to confirm that gases and particles released through these outlets stay within safe and permitted limits.

If your facility has process vents, storage tank vents, or equipment relief points and you need to check what is being released into the air, our team can guide you through the complete testing process.

What is Ambient Noise Testing?

Ambient noise testing means measuring the general noise level present in the surrounding environment, whether around a factory, construction site, residential colony or commercial area. This is different from checking noise from a single machine or source, since ambient testing captures the overall sound level of an area, including traffic, machinery, human activity and other background noise.

Noise levels are measured in decibels (dB) using a sound level meter, usually recorded at different times of the day, since permitted noise limits vary between day and night hours. The results are then compared against limits set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to check whether the area falls within safe noise standards.

Ambient noise testing is done for:

  • Industrial and manufacturing zones
  • Construction and infrastructure project sites
  • Residential colonies and housing societies
  • Areas near hospitals, schools and silence zones
  • Commercial and mixed-use areas
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies

Key Parameters Checked in Vent Emission Testing

Parameter What It Tells You?

Leq (Equivalent Continuous Noise Level)

Average noise level over a measured period

Lmax and Lmin

Highest and lowest noise levels recorded during monitoring

Day Time Noise Level

Noise readings taken between 6 AM and 10 PM

Night Time Noise Level

Noise readings taken between 10 PM and 6 AM

Frequency of Peak Noise Events

Number of times noise crosses the permissible limit during monitoring

Ambient noise testing measures the overall noise level in a general area, such as a residential colony or industrial zone. Workplace noise testing focuses specifically on noise exposure to workers at their work stations. Sawen Group offers both types of testing separately.

This depends on the purpose of testing. Basic checks may take a few hours, while EIA studies often require monitoring across a full day-and-night cycle. Our team will confirm the exact duration based on your requirement.

Yes. Sawen Group is a NABL accredited laboratory (Certification No. T-2091), and our ambient noise reports are accepted for CTE, CTO, EIA and other regulatory submissions.

Our environmental consultants review the results and suggest corrective measures, such as noise barriers, equipment maintenance or operational changes, depending on the source of noise.

No. Permissible noise limits vary depending on the zone type, such as industrial, commercial, residential or silence zones, and also differ between day and night hours.

Yes. Along with ambient noise testing, we assist clients in securing Environmental Clearance, NOC, CTE and CTO from the relevant government departments.
