What is Surface Water Testing?

Surface water testing means checking water found on the surface of the earth, such as in rivers, lakes, ponds, canals and reservoirs, to find out its physical, chemical and biological quality. Unlike ground water, surface water is directly exposed to the atmosphere, human activity and surrounding land, which makes it more likely to carry pollutants.

The test checks for things like pH, dissolved oxygen, bacteria, chemical contamination and the presence of harmful substances. Once tested, the results are compared against standards set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and other regulatory bodies to confirm if the water is safe for its intended use.
